Severe hiccups / hiccups
TWO LIKELY SCENARIOS
1-
Frequently sleeping within two hours of a meal will cause a duodenal ulcer. Mental stress in your life (unknown future, moving, too many things to do in a short time, divorce, loss of a loved one) will also cause ulcers. Ulcers may cause anemic symptoms. When the ulcer is present, the digestive acids will cause large amounts of gas and bubbles to cause choking type reactions. A few minutes after a meal the acid reaction is low , but it slowly intensifies until the meal is completely digested and/or dehydration is present.
You have to wait until the ulcer heals till symptoms disappear. Prilosec antacid may help. Chamomile herbal tea may help with the choking spasms. Wait at least two hours after a meal to sleep in order to heal ulcer.
2-
Most of the time hiccups are a minor inconvenience. But in some instances for some people a combination of [(1) rib cage deformation and, (2) severe acid reflux ] could result in severe life threatening hiccups. These hiccups will cause almost complete choking periods for over 30 seconds each time!
The rib cage deformation occurs over several days by such
things as sleeping on your chest for a prolonged length of time. If
the lower front are of the rib cage experiences high pressures for a
extended period of time it will stay and grow in a compressed manner.
This will lead to a more "oval" cross section and less of a
"circular" cross section of the rib cage. The area
susceptible to pressure is also the same general area used for C.P.R.
This area
compresses easily because there is no structural
support like there is when you go higher toward the shoulders. [To
correct this problem try sleeping on sides (switch to other side
periodically) on a firm level mattress]. After deformation occurs the
distance from the (front of the chest; and to your back)
decreases. This leave less space for internal organs such as the
diaphragm , upper esophagus, etc.,. When acid enters this "tight"
area form the stomach (due to acid reflux discussed below) the
inflammation triggers the severe choking reaction. I think the hiccup
may have evolved when our ancestors ate food in a hurry (to avoid
theft or predators ) and when it got hung up before it entered the
stomach, the involuntary hiccup may have assisted in freeing the
choke point.
The acid reflex is caused by tissue damage of gastric acid.
This often happens when you lie down
within two hours of a meal
(if you have to, at least sleep on a firm mattress where the head and
chest are at a higher level than your stomach and feet.) When this
becomes a habit the stomach acid rests against the lower esophageal
sphincter (LES- valve) and damages the tissue to where it no longer
serves as an effective fluid/ acid lock . Usually this acid leak into
the upper esophageal feels like a burning sensation, "heart
burn". Medicine like Prilosec (Omeprazole) is a good treatment
for severe acid reflux. But ANY medicine is never a long term answer
for your body, (and in many cases when you are sick , if you recover
naturally you will be more resistant to illnesses ). Some other
causes of acid reflux are are obesity, smoking, caffeine, spices,
very warm/ hot food and alcohol.
Another cause of acid reflux is H. pylori from e.g. from bad yogurt. To cure this try, for four days straight , once a day on an empty stomach drink a can of beer and sleep it off. But don't make it a habit to drink alcohol.
On a side note, don't rest your head on your arms or hands when you sleep. Any pressure will result in lower blood flow to the limb/ organ , and over time make it weaker. Even when awake you should not have any attire/ under garments/positions that blocks easy blood flow to any part of the body.
Detergents/ Nasal allergies
Use
liquid detergents that are listed as perfume and dye free. The liquid
form dissolves better and will leave less residue. The powder
residue from concentrated powder detergents can stay on clothing
after wash and easily get air born. This will result in an allergy
like sneezing for many days. (This can also occur if you use too much
liquid detergent, or bleach ; If you have to use a little bleach, you
may want a name brand like Clorox, instead of store brand or
generic.) You should also avoid dyes and perfumes in your carpet/
toilet/ bathroom cleaners. It is bad enough that nylon fiber that
won't naturally decompose are going to be flying around, you
don't want to add more irritants by adding perfumes and dyes to
carpets. However carpets serve a very useful purpose in reducing head
injuries to children when they fall.
Avoid "Tide" and "All" brands.
Toilet and carpet cleaners, bleach with long term odors, can weaken nasal sensors and make you more prone to allergies. Running in weather below 50 degree F, or smoke, could weaken nasal sensors. Basically anything that irritates the nasal sensors over some time could make them more reactive to allergies. You will be able to isolate in home/ clothing allergies if you feel a little better when out doors in fresh air. A nasal allergy usually causes runny nose and sneezing when more intense.
If you decide you have to have medicine "Nasal Crom" is OTC non addictive mast cell stabilizer.
A stuffy nose (unlike a runny nose) may often be caused by dry/winter air. A humidifier in the room is the answer.
Fungus
(Athletes foot, jock
itch etc.,)
If you decide you have to have medicine OTC
"Micatin" 2% Miconazole Nitrate usually works for athletes
foot.
Some fungus can thrive on moist, warm, dark
environments of human skin. If over the counter medication is not
giving proper results, try generous applications of rubbing alcohol
(like isopropyl) twice a day. This may sometimes be painful (jock
itch), but it also is painful to the fungus. Continue treatment for a
couple of weeks after symptoms disappear so that you are not leaving
behind resistant strains. Avoid re-infection by not sharing towels,
wear slippers in common bath rooms. If possible have bathrooms
ventilated and dry by sunlight. Some furniture and carpets that are
made of natural fibber may provide proteins to fungus. Also old
combs, tooth brushes, caps, razors, etc., could be a suspect too.
Isopropyl alcohol can also be used regularly to treat fungus.
By the way isopropyl alcohol also seems to reduce Poison Ivy exposure. After exposure to Poison Ivy, take shower, apply generous amount of isopropyl alcohol to suspected areas, let skin dry (do not apply any lotions for few hours.)
Headaches
There are many
reasons for headaches but some causes are; The consumption of
nuts. Exposure to prolonged glare. Too much sunlight and heat to the
head area, you should use a well ventilated head dress.
Fitness
Most people are on a
busy schedule and find it difficult to make time for regular
exercise. But nutrition, stress/ family/ nature management, and
exercise, are required for your health. If you are on a fairly active
schedule, I believe you can get away with a once a week minimum
health maintenance program. This would include a 1.5 mile jog ,
lateral pull downs, abdominal crunches on a good machine, and
push ups.
Food-
5-10 % protein ( black-eyed peas with some tomato sauce
and garlic powder); 25 % bread; 65% carbohydrate and some fat as oil
(french fries) ; -if the oil is sunflower or safflower oil it will
help reduce your cholesterol, just like to garlic. By the way, kids
need a good amount of cholesterol (whole milk, eggs) because their
brains are growing. But after you reach adult stage, too much
cholesterol will pretty much end up killing you, and animal flesh is
the #1 source of cholesterol. I also recommend milk, some
dessert, and a Centrum (or similar multi vitamin once a day) with
antioxidants and vitamin A derived from "beta carotene". (
Other sources of vitamin A are derived from animal liver oil and can
be toxic in higher doses.) This type of meal includes most
everything you need and can be used to sustain you on a long term
basis. If you are concerned about gas caused by eating black
eyed peas ; after you soak them in water for six hours, stir and
drain the water before or after boiling for cooking. The black eyed
peas only stay fresh in fridge for about four days, so you will want
to freeze larger portions till they are ready for the fridge. When
you are ready to eat, I recommend micro waving most of your foods. [lease note that some people may experience more mental depression on a diet high in black eyed peas.
Avoid Mustard, spices (especially peppers) and
vinegar, they irritate the brain and make people less tolerant to
stress; this usually leads to mood swings, depressive or explosive
disorders. Except for sweet taste, other "strong" tastes
are usually a warning by nature to mammals, / and these plants
usually don't require mammals for seed dispersal. As an example
the zycad fruit used in making bread in Guam has been linked to
poison that shows up at older age with symptoms like Parkinson's/ and
Alzheimer's diseases.
Jog-
Before you jog make sure you are feeling well, relaxed,
stretched, and have eaten a good meal 3-4 hours prior and have enough
water in the body. All clothing should be least 50% cotton and not
too tight. Your first half mile should be very slow, and throughout
the whole run maintain good bouncy form. I recommend well fitted
basketball shoes. The trend (last 20 years) toward heavy padding on
the heels for regular sneakers keeps a lot of foot doctors in
business. This padding encourages people to land on their heel which
is a BIG NO NO . You should land on your main front toes/ ball
section and the first contact should ideally be right below you so
the foot experiences vertical only vectors on landing. As you make
your landings and take off bouncy, the vectors will be closer
to of a sine waves instead of a square waves. This bouncy run
is intended to help your muscles build and absorb the shock. It is
not meant for speed, man was not designed for extensive running. This
bouncy/ hop run may look slightly strange, but it is gives good
results by reducing shocks naturally by using the front toes/ball
foot and calf muscle. Ideally I recommend barefoot running on a hard
cool surface, no one dares to hit their heel on a hard surface, and a
good form is maintained. Even flatfooted people will develop better
arches using good form. Also when you try to land the foot directly
below you, it reduces horizontal vectors / scraping noises which
cause "shin splints". (Your foot experiences a SUDDEN stop
in the horizontal vector, the inertia in the shin tries to bend the
shin.) After landing use the back of your thighs and buttock
muscles to make a smooth forward and upward bounce. Most of the
ground contact should be below you and behind you ; very little
contact, if any should be before your vertical axis. Your knees
should almost touch as they pass this will minimize bowing of
legs. Keep your back fairly straight and perpendicular to the ground,
(except on incline road or heavy wind.) Your second half mile should
be at a moderate pace and concentrating on form and continue
breathing through nose (unless it is very cold, this nose breathing
will make you less susceptible to allergies and help mold nasal
passages) . Use co-ordinated arm swings but try to keep wrists above
the waist and in front of you , similar to boxing form, but
periodically stretch arm for better circulation. You third and last
half mile should be a good speed , anaerobic , causing you to breathe
through your mouth. When you are done , you should WALK a fast pace
for AT LEAST ONE MILE = VERY IMPORTANT , a proper warm down is
even more important than warm up , to reduce injury and sickness.
Avoid sudden temperature changes and cold liquids. Water at room
temperature is best after you have rested for at least 10 minutes,
unless you are dehydrated. Sudden cooling of air around you or
cold drinks in a hot body may condense moisture in the lungs, which
will make you cough and may lead to illnesses.
Lateral pull downs, behind head and touch shoulder-
Do three
sets with at least 10 reps at half your body weight. Good for
fingers, grip, biceps, laterals.
After some time this exercise
also seems to help lower herniated disk pain in back.
I think
when primates started walking upright and stopped hanging on trees it
led to
continuous compression pressure on the lower back. Slow
backward back arching stretches, also seem to help decompressing
disks and reduce nerve pinching.
Push ups-
Do three sets with at least 20 reps. Good for
triceps , pectoral , chest.
Abdominal crunch-
(Use the machine described ) Do three sets
with at least 20 reps at half your body weight. Too much weight will
harm your back. Also keep your back straight, and don't come up more
than 60 degrees from your legs during the reps; this will reduce the
stress on your back. Try to alternate the pressure on the shoulders,
this will give more muscle on the side of the waste, which increases
the metabolism and reduces fat. You don't want to get rid of all of
the fat in your body and try to look like Mr. universe either. That
kind of muscle definition is not practical or healthy in the long
run. Fat helps energize your body when your immune system is feeling
weak.
After a LOT of research , as of right now, I have
concluded that the only way to do a good abdominal crunch is on a
professional dedicated crunch machine. The number one choice is the
Nautilus machine with the free weights on the side. Since the patent
has expired, champion makes a clone which I bought for around $1,000
. They may be lower now , but they are worth it for your health. Pot
bellies ; and their risks to lower back problems are a world wide
problem.
Natural sit ups will hurt your back and/ or do not
isolate the proper muscles. Other machines do not give proper
results. A proper crunch program will help your posture and reduce
your chance of back injury. Alternate pressure on each shoulder
shoulder for the first half of the reps, then even pressure for the
last half. This helps the sides and center in that order.
Quality of air-
People often take the quality of air in
their life for granted. Fresh air is important for the immune system.
Don't exercise in heavy traffic areas. If you have gas heating, keep
a Carbon Monoxide indicator, and leave at least two windows opposite
or at right angles, cracked open for fresh air circulation . Liquid
heaters with a large surface area, or heat pumps, are better and
safer than [flame type, or hot electric coil type]. The large surface
area does NOT; sterilize, dry, and kill all bacteria in the air; the
body NEEDS some of this natural humidity and bacteria to maintain the
immune system and allergy resistance. You may want run a humidifier
during the winter.
Many hotels, shopping centers, and office
buildings seal windows and seal fresh air exchange ducts in an
attempt to save a little money.
Back safety-
Sleep on a firm mattress.
Always keep
your spine PERPENDICULAR to the ground , ESPECIALLY WHEN LIFTING.
We
were originally designed to walk on four legs. Since we are walking
on two, if you try to lift, or pull up ,when your spine is at an
angle, there is an incredible increase of leveraged pressure in
the lower back. Once you screw up your back, you will live with it
for the rest of your life.
Sleeping on carpet floor or a firm bed (a thin foam on hard board) will stretch your spine during the night and solve most back problems. Try inversion table if you have a safety spotter to watch you regularly.
Immune system-
For 2-5 days after exercise depending on your
body, your immune system will be MORE susceptible; (similar to
sore muscles) before it becomes stronger. You should avoid stresses
during this time. ( mental stress, starvation, heavy exercise ,
exposure to sick people, etc.,.)
When you are feeling ill , you
may want to reduce exertion and sexual activity so your immune system
and subconscious mind can dedicate more resources for defence
systems. E.g.. sperm production has a high priory in the body and may
leech resources needed to fight sore throats/ fever.
On a side
note; Use antibiotics and medication sparingly. It is better if you
try to overcome things with your natural immune system. Antibiotic
overuse (caused by misled people and greedy pharmaceutical companies)
has made hospitals and the world a very dangerous place for humans.
The sterile and medicated environments often leave behind the the
most resistant bacteria to evolve. Always finish your entire
prescription even though the symptoms may have disappeared, to
minimize the risk of having resistant bacteria evolve. Some time in
the future humans as we know them will be extinct because bacteria
are more resilient than us, but there is no good reason to accelerate
this process.
Misc.-
-Too much sunlight / U.V. light or lack of
aerobic exercise add to the aging process.
-Olive oil or
garlic in food will help your health.
- Peppers, mustard and vinegar may cause depressive and explosive disorders.
Usually anything
that is not naturally tasty to mammals, is a warning by nature that
it does not
require you for seed dispersal, and may
deter you with long term poisons.
Travellers diarrhoea
Due to bad
food preparation methods it is possible to acquire a parasite through
food , especially in third world countries. Usually the symptoms are
recurring diarrhea. The effective method for treatment is usually
flagil, for about two weeks.
It is important not to stop dosage after a few days when
symptoms disappear. If you repeatedly stop dosage after a
few days the parasite becomes resistant to the medicine and will
render the medication useless in the future. If possible/
feasible humans may slowly want to try to heal from diseases without
modern medications or treatments. Antibiotics and sterile hospital
environments have enabled the bacteria to evolve super lethal
strains. Bacteria are like hackers at light speed. Since their
numbers are high and life/ reproductive cycles are short, eventually
in a few years they can come up with DNA combinations that will be
resistant to anything that we have, and sterile environments makes it
easy for the "bad" bacteria to take over.
Many life
forms have succumbed to bacteria. In time it is statistically
probable that humans as we know them may also be extinct due to
bacteria.

Although many 1st class hotels have a
high standard of sanitation and safe water supply the
people
working in them and handling the food do not. Also tourism is an
important source of income for many countries and disease risk will
often be played down by the locals and even government bodies. Most
episodes of diarrhea are short-lived and require no particular
treatment The need to treat diarrhoea depends on either its severity
or persistence. Transmission is mostly via contaminated food or
water.
Choose food
which is fresh and thoroughly cooked and served
steaming hot.
Eat fruit or vegetables that you can peel, or cut,
or open yourself,
e.g.. banana, citrus fruits, papaya.
Dry
foods and Breads are generally safe.
Canned and bottled soft
drinks are generally safe.
Distilled water and Bottled water are
generally safe if you can trust the manufacturer.
Filtered AND
Boiled water is generally safe.
Also name brand soft drinks like
Coke, 7UP, may use better water and less hazardous
preservatives,
(E.g.. I don't like preservatives like,
potassium BENZOATE.)
Dangers
Avoid milk, ice cream and other milk products UNLESS
made with pasteurized (or boiled) milk.
Avoid sauces, mousses,
mayonnaise.
Avoid smörgåsbord even in 5 star
restaurants ( reheated foods & food sitting at room temperature)
Avoid prawns, oysters, fish, unless thoroughly cooked.
Hamburger
meat can be dangerous as they are often pre-cooked and stand at room
temperature.
Avoid uncooked leafy vegetables, e.g.. in salads.
Ciguatera: At certain times of the year various species of fish
and shellfish (especially the larger
reef fish including shark)
contain poisonous toxins. The risk of illness is reduced by washing
the
flesh. Cooking does not inactivate the toxins.
Ice is
only as safe as the water it is made from.
Purification of water
Safe water for drinking can be prepared
by either filtering or using chemicals or both.
A)- Iodine: 8 drops of 1% iodine solution in 1 liter of water and
let stand for 30 minutes. (Betadine)
(Nb chemicals do not
eradicate Guardia or Amoeba parasites)
Filters: The trekker
travel well supplied by MASTA and many chemist outlets is convenient,
lightweight, effective and recommended. Approx. cost $100 but
worth it.
B)- Filter water first. A good filter minimizes unwanted minerals
too. Then BOIL the water AND any clean glasses and clean
cooking utensils for AT LEAST five minutes. Keep the utensils on a
tray which is also regularly sterilized. The utensils should be made
out of stainless steel or glass which is made to resist thermal
shock. There are also various appliances that make distilled water.
Purified water should be used for all cooking and drinking.
** !! Children with Diarrhea !! **
Diarrhea is
unfortunately common, for children and adults alike. But children,
especially babies. are
much more susceptible to dehydration.
Prevention involves eating and drinking safely and attention to
personal hygiene, especially hand washing after bowel movements and
before eating.
Breast fed infants are at substantially less risk
of food or water-borne infections. Most diarrheal
illnesses are
acute and self limited. The main complication of dehydration can be
avoided in the great majority of cases by adequate fluid intake.
Management of Diarrhea
Because diarrhea is so common it is
important to be aware of how to manage it if prevention fails.
Fluids.
Most travelers do not develop dehydrating diarrhea;
almost any beverage coupled with a source of salt (e.g.., salted
crackers) suffices for hydrating most ill travelers.
Bottled or
canned beverages, tea, broth, foods such as rice, bananas, papaya
(papaw), potatoes and dry biscuits are tolerated best.
** !!
Children with diarrhea are of special concern (see special
considerations notes). !! **
A)- Antimotility drugs ('stoppers'). Since most diarrheal
illnesses last only a few days, these drugs may be very helpful in
relieving diarrhea and cramps. Do not use if high fever or blood in
motions. Do not use in children under 6, and be cautious in children
under 12. Adult Dosage:
loperamide (Immodium) -2 capsules (each 2
mg) followed by 1 cap after each unformed stool.
(maximum 8 caps
per day.)
B)- Antibiotics. Diarrhea with high fever, distressing symptoms or
blood in motions; A single dose of two tablets of any of the
following drugs should be effective. If response is not dramatic
after 12 hours continue 1 tab
twice a day for a further 3 days.
(Norfloxacin 400 mg,
ciprofloxacin 500 mg , doxycycline 100 mg,
Co-trimoxazole.)
C)- Prolonged diarrhea (>10 days) and without fever a bowel
parasite "giardiasis" is the
commonest cause. The best
treatment is tinidasole (Fasigyn) - 4 x 500 mg tablets (2g) in a
single
dose. Metronidazole 400 mg three times a day for 5 days is
an alternative. If this is not completely effective
amoebic dysentery is a possibility. Tinidasole (Fasigyn) - 4 x 500 mg
tablets (2g) daily for 3 successive days should be effective.
When diarrhea is prolonged and with fever seek medical attention
D)- Antibiotics to prevent Diarrhea.
This is reasonable for
short trips (less than 3 weeks). Indications include persons with
Inflammatory bowel disease ;Insulin Dependant diabetics ;Persons
on strong H2 blockers
Business travelers whose purpose of the
trip would be ruined will often chose this option
Norfloxacin 400
mg daily, Ciprofloxacin 500 mg daily or Bactrim 1 DS daily could be
used.
**!! Children with Diarrhea !!**
A)- Mild diarrhea:- give
extra fluids such as water, oral re hydration solution (ORS e.g.
Gastrolyte) or dilutions of drinks as follows:
cordials (not low calorie) - I part to 6 parts water.
lemonade
(not low calorie) - 1 part to 4 parts water.
fruit juice (not
concentrated) - 1 part to 4 parts water.
home made ORS solution -
Using a 5 ml teaspoon, 8 level spoons of table sugar and half a level
teaspoon of salt can he added to a litre of water.
B)- Severe diarrhea: give one cup of ORS for every watery stool.
Adults traveling with children should carry a supply of Gastrolyte
sachets. If the child is hungry give a normal diet.
The most
reliable signs of dehydration are weight loss and a fall in urine
output A dehydrated child will drink ORS avidly and should be given
as much as he/she will drink. A child who vomits will retain some ORS
if given frequent small sips. Feeding, particularly breast feeding,
should be continued. Solids should be stopped for no longer than 24
hours and preferably not at all. Starvation delays recovery.
Antidiarrhoeal drugs and anti nausea drugs such as prochlorperazine
(Stemetil) and metoclopramide (Maxolon) SHOULD NOT be used in young
children because they can cause serious problems.
**!! Medical
help should be sought if; there is blood in the stool; or a high
fever is present; or diarrhea persists for more than 3 days in a
child; or 1 day in a baby ; or ANY OTHER CAUSE for concern is
present !!**
(Where children are concerned it is better to be
safe than sorry, keep checking back with physician on a regular
basis.)

Wisdom teeth
There is a big push in
dentistry for always removing wisdom teeth. This is not necessary. In
many cases if you put up with some pain for a few months (by using
compounds like anbesol) , your jaw in many cases will expand to
accommodate new teeth. As you get older its better to keep as many of
your natural teeth as possible.
Cleaning your teeth:
You should floss and brush at least
twice a day (after breakfast and supper). Flossing takes care of
75% of the problems and brushing takes care of the other 25%. Makes
sure your brush head is "compact" size, this will ensure
the brush gets the neglected gum and teeth surfaces in the far back
and near the jaw hinges.
Circumcision
There is a big push in
pediatrics to circumcise male infants. Evolution rarely gives things
which are of no value. The practice of circumcision is mainly
here due to descendants of Abraham trying to reduce sexual behavior
by reducing its pleasure. They will try to tell you it is
better for your health if you are circumcised. That is a bunch of
crap. Jewish religions may also be promoting this myth in modern day
due to fear of another holocaust. Because if Jewish men were
the only ones to be circumcised, it would be easy for a racist group
to identify them.
Blood pressure (these are my own
theories)
Current blood pressure readings do not reflect
accurately on individual health. I suggest an (S.K.) health
indicator, the higher the ratio the better.

Diastolic should be refereed to as current pressure. Systolic pressure should be refereed to as what the heart is capable of producing. Long term medications are a bad idea (unless you are a pharmaceutical company ) , besides you may build up a tolerance to the medicine, which will in turn require a higher dose of the medicine.
Drinking fluids
-Distilled water is the purest water for drinking.

YESTERDAY YOU WERE A DELIGHTFUL GIRL.
TODAY YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN.
YOUR FATHER MUST BE PROUD OF YOUR PURE HEART.
TOMORROW YOU MUST BE MY WIFE AND
THE MOTHER OF OUR CHILDREN.
WHEN I SAW YOU WAITING FOR ME,
IN THAT FAIR DRESS WITH THOSE ELEGANT GLOVES,
I SENT YOU A ROSE OF PRESENT BEAUTY,
